12 Questions with The Sherlocks

The Sherlocks‘ recent single ‘Sirens’ delivered a big moment for the band, their fierce and uncompromising new sound rewarded with extensive Radio 1 airplay including Jordan & Vick’s Tune of the Week as well as spins from long-term fan Jack Saunders. It has delivered a huge start for the campaign for their upcoming album ‘People Like Me & You’, which follows on August 11th. Now The Sherlocks continue their resurgence by sharing the new single “Don’t Let It Out“.

With tours around the UK, Europe and Japan the boys continue on an ever-increasing momentum.

The Sherlocks consist of two pairs of brothers (vocalist/guitarist Kiaran Crook and drummer Brandon Crook; bassist Andy Davidson and guitarist Josh Davidson) and are an indie rock quartet formed in the summer of 2010 in the small village of Bolton upon Dearne in Sheffield, U.K.

NSG caught up with the lads for a natter ahead of their extremely busy summer.

NSG: Good morning and how are you, what have you been doing today and how’s that going?

TS: We are currently in the studio working on a little project. The fans are going to be buzzing to see what we’ve been working on!

NSG: Where did you grow up what was it like?

TS: We grew up in a little village called Bolton On Dearne. It is a very small village, with nothing much to see or do but we had a great time growing up there. We used to just play football until we couldn’t see the ball anymore because it was nighttime.

NSG: How did your band form and what’s the story of your band’s name?

TS: We pulled it out of a Christmas Cracker!

NSG: Your new album ‘People Like Me & You‘  is coming out during the summer, can you tell us a bit about it?

TS: It is the best album we’ve ever produced. The fans are going to be blown away with this one. It is 100% the most complete. We feel like we are going from strength to strength. We’ve started to see so many new fans getting into our band, which is great too.

NSG: You have had a hell of a lot of success these past few years. Can I ask how you deal with the pressures of being a successful band, and what, if anything, do you find hard to deal with about it?

TS: We don’t see it any different to when we were playing in the pubs and clubs. The gigs are what we are about, we have always been a band that thrives off playing live! Get us on tour! We love the studio but you can’t beat the fans singing every word back at us.

NSG: What was the first song you ever wrote either on your own or as a band?

TS: It was a song called “She” Kiaran wrote it with his mate in the back of his Maths book.

NSG: You have a tour coming up in October right? Between now and then will you be playing any other shows, like festivals etc, and if so what ones?

TS: Yes we are currently doing lots of pop-up gigs to help push our new album and connect with the fans. Buzzing to get back into Europe and do some festivals. Back to Benicassim which will be unreal. The UK tour later this year will be the best-ever tour! Armed with 4 albums now!

(The Sherlocks)

NSG: How would you personally describe your sound and who have been your biggest influences?

TS: Our sound has developed naturally over the last few albums. Definitely going from strength to strength. We are genuinely influenced by everything. Musically we do tend to all be into different things but it really does make it work beautifully.

NSG: As a band, what have been your most ‘OMG’ moments?

TS: I’d say playing Summersonic in Japan that was a moment for sure haha. We are from a little village in the middle of nowhere playing in small pubs then a few years later we are in Japan and fans are waiting for us at the airport and our hotel. Really crazy! We love Japan and the fans, can’t wait to get back over there.

NSG: If you could sit down for dinner with any three people from history, past or present who would they be and why?

TS: Tiger Woods, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Tyson Fury It would be absolutely unreal. Sporting heroes.

NSG: How is the rest of 2023 looking for you?

TS: It’s looking like the best year so far!! NEW ALBUM, NEW TOUR! The fan base is forever growing! Bring on the future.

NSG: Thank you so much for your time. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

TS: We would just like to thank our loyal fan base for sticking with us. Get behind the album everyone!
