The Reserves

As part of a This Feeling production, ‘The Reserves played their set on 9th February 2024 at EBGB’s, Liverpool. The Reserves is an all-Liverpool hailing quartet consisting of Corrin Melia as lead singer and rhythm guitar, Rob Gillies on lead guitar, Em McDermott on bass and Shaun Cowley on drums.

The Reserves kicked off their electric set with “Woman With A Plan“, their first studio release which came out in October of last year. For their first single, it sounds like they’ve been doing this for years and I have no doubt they will be on some rather large headlines in the future. “Woman With A Plan” starts off with a punchy guitar riff to get you intrigued and once they’ve got you, there is no going back. This song reminds me of when you’re drunk and you’re thinking about doing something you shouldn’t but ultimately it doesn’t matter, because you’re going to do it anyway. And I personally, love that.

Following their debut song, they followed on with some fan favourites that are unreleased so far but you’re sure to catch on to, with “Marshall Hearts” first and closely leading on to “Parallel”, “White Lies” and “What A Sight”. These songs kept the energy high and atmosphere dangerously inviting, encapsulated with Corrin’s vocals, no beats missed by Shaun on drums and Em and Rob bringing it all together on lead guitar and bass. 

“No Smoking On The Dancefloor” is one of my favourite ‘Reserves’ songs, currently unreleased but a staple at their recent shows. This song is always received beautifully by the crowd, as the lyrics, written by the band as a collective , have a certain poetic feel, in which Corrin conveys transcendently to the audience.

“Feel Back Then” is a special song that The Reserves play excellently as it makes you feel so nostalgic about the past. A perfect choice of song to end their set at EBGB’s, giving you a sort of coming-of-age feeling, that makes you reflect in a bittersweet way.

Overall, what I would say is that The Reserves are the newest four-piece band in the Liverpool music scene right now and they are definitely ones to watch in the future. You will never have a dull moment at a Reserves gig and once you have been to your first show, you’ll never want to miss another. I am honestly ecstatic about what this year holds for ‘The Reserves’ as they establish their name in the music industry and represent our amazing city with such pride.
