musician and Florida native
Psychojulz
to talk about her music and what makes her tick.
Julz says that the only reason she started making music was as a way to deal with lots of trauma and emotions that she was dealing with at a young age
She originally started making music when she was 16 years old, but didn’t start taking it seriously until she was about 21 years old.
NSG: Good morning Julz and how are you, what have you been doing so far and how’s that going?
Julz: I’m doing good this morning, haven’t really done much besides eat, drink some coffee just read a little Rudolf Steiner, hope you are having a good morning also!
NSG: Where did you grow up and what was it like?
Julz: I really didn’t “grow up anywhere” since young age my grandma mainly raised me. I was jumping around a lot, whether it would be to my aunt’s house or random friends, but I would say the main areas I grew up in where in Florida, like Pinellas County, Hillsborough County & Pasco County. I genuinely hate it here if we’re being honest lol, the people are dreadful & I plan on leaving.
NSG: How did your journey as a musician begin?
Julz: I was on the Internet very young, on Tumblr and Myspace. I was very obsessed with the band Gorillaz and I would say I started making music around my 16th birthday after I found lots of inspiration from Tumblr etc.
NSG: We originally found you on SoundCloud.The song that really stood out to us is called f0rbiddenlove, wanna tell us a bit about the song and what it’s about?
Julz: That song is a song I wrote when I thought I was in love with someone and the emotions I had, probably were real at the time, but they’re no longer present in my vessel. I still enjoy that song though.

NSG: How would you describe your sound, and who have been your biggest influences musically?
Julz: I would describe my sound as omnipresent, meaning that it can be anywhere at any time also, anything at any time. I would believe I am versatile, and I can create any sound that I like – I don’t ever want to throw myself into one genre. As for inspirations: Nicole Dollanganger, Sky Ferreira, Marina and the Diamonds, Winona Brooks (Lil Bo Weep) and Jahseh Onfroy, AKA (XXXTENTACION). I also do like a lot of new popular SoundCloud people that have been coming out with this kind of like Sigil Glitch music.
NSG: How do you make your music?
Julz: I strictly use BandLab I want to record more in the studio, recorded in the studio a few times, but it gives me massive anxiety.
NSG: What is your dream as an artist?
Julz: To be able to make people feel understood and comfortable

NSG: Name three artists we should be listing to.
Julz: Izaya Tiji, Elusin & Anycia.
NSG: If you could sit down for dinner with any three people from history, past or present, who would they be and why?
Julz: Rudolf Steiner x3 … hope that’s okay to answer. The only reason being would be the questions I have for hidden knowledge. Possibly minus one of him and invite Elon Musk, but not 100% sure about that one and he would be there for the same reason.
NSG: What is your favourite food/meal and who’s it cooked by?
Julz: I enjoy Cuban sandwiches and I get them from random places all the time.
NSG: Who do you think is the most influential artist to come out of Florida?
Julz: 100% XXXTENTACION, absolutely no debate.
NSG: How is the rest of 2023 looking for you?
Julz: It is looking pretty good so far, I plan to make as much music as I can make more connections and friends, and to move to LA as soon as possible.
