Loathe at Liverpool’s Arts Club 10/12/21
On the 10th December Loathe played at the Arts Club in their hometown of Liverpool. I went to this gig not knowing what to expect with not seeing them live before, I was full of excitement but nervous.
First up we had Modern Error. If you’re a fan of Holding Absence then you would like these as they have a similar music style, hardcore rock. I really enjoyed their performance. I never heard about them until the gig itself but I seem like a band to look out for in the nearby future. They were so energetic on stage and the crowd got into them from the first song.
Next up was Slow Crush and these guys killed it from start to finish with the crowd headbanging along to the songs. The best way I can describe their music is like dreamy, alternative metal because you feel like in a dream when listening to them, the style makes you think you back in the 90s gothic scene. I really enjoyed these guys I thought they were a lot different than Modern Error who were on before them because they weren’t as energetic but that wasn’t their scene because their music is more lowkey and more “Viking” and really listen to the music.
Last up was the incredible Loathe and I would like to say to I was amazed just how much the crowd got into their set like it was crazy from the start, talking crowd surfers from the first song onwards, I felt so sorry for the security guys because they were literally non stop from the first song but they did an amazing job keeping everyone safe. Just before they came on they played “you’ll never walk alone” which I thought was brilliant because they are from Liverpool and must be proud to be from the city, I can just remember the security guard not being happy about it shaking his head out of laughter because he was an Evertonian. For their set they were playing the entire “The things they believe” album, which was amazing not just for their fans being able to hear their new album in full live but with their performance in general, you don’t really get many bands playing an album in full and then to do 3 extra songs on the encore, just shows how much they love their fans and support.
It was by one of the best gigs I’ve been to, you could feel the energy in the room not just from the band but from the crowd, I’m pretty sure there was like a mosh/ circle pit for near enough every song Loathe played. If you like your heavy hardcore metal music I really recommend checking out Loathe because they really are something else.
