Psych- Punk duo “The Lovely Eggs” finally got their tour going and celebrated with the last date on their tour in Liverpool at District, on Thursday night. New Sound Generation’s Warren Millar was there to catch the action.
After being rescheduled an amazing seven times Lancasters “The Lovely Eggs” finally got the chance to show off their much acclaimed and indie chart topping album “I Am Moron” on tour.
With the title track of the album also being released and featuring none other than “Iggy Pop” who said about the band “I like everything I hear by The Lovely Eggs” this gig was not to be missed.
The Liverpool gig also had a change of venue, originally due to take place at “Phase One” it was moved to “District” down in the Baltic Triangle.
On a rather damp but warm Thursday night at District first up on stage were Brighton’s Electro punk duo “AK/DK” who seemed to be crammed into the corner of the stage alongside all sorts of electronic gadgetry and two drum kits. These guys have some great sounds with booming baselines and lovely strange and wonderful melodies that hit you like a train and then die down a little before hitting you once again just for good measure. Well worth catching them if you get the chance.
After a short pause for the growing crowd to refresh their drinks we were then treated to the wonderful Manchester poet “Matt Thick Richard” who I would describe as a modern day “John Cooper Clarke” Even the early microphone failure didn’t put this guy off his stride with his funny, to the point cynical attitude and brilliant use of words. One poem as Thick Richard told us “This is about fucking” was delivered at a fast pace and in less than 2 minutes, This, he said, was written in real time.
On to the what District was waiting for “The Lovely Eggs” Holly and David really do have a following of loyal fans and this shows at their gigs. What can be said about this band that hasn’t already been said. Live they are great and the interaction on stage with each other and their fans is a real pleasure to see. This is not a band who comes on stage, plays their music, and then goes! Their gigs are for the people who come and see them time and time again. Energetic, meaningful, and true to their art. If the great Iggy Pop says about these guys “The wonderful wonderful Lovely Eggs, I like everything I hear by The Lovely Eggs” …….. Well, that’s good enough for me.
