Tom Walker at Liverpool Arts Club, review
Tom Walker at Liverpool Arts Club
Tom Walker has become one of the UK’s best known talents after the release of his hit single ‘Leave a Light On‘ back in 2018, and has gone on to establish himself as a successful name in the music industry after winning the British Breakthrough Award at the 2019 BRIT Awards. I have been a fan of Tom’s ever since the release of “Leave a Light On” and therefore it was an absolute privilege to not only review the gig but photograph it also!
The Liverpool show was the first of a series of intimate gigs and is also the first tour Tom has been on since Covid-19 and it was evident how much it meant to Tom to be performing and touring once again.
Before Tom joined us on stage, the crowd was warmed up by the lovely Bow Anderson. Bow is an insanely talented singer/songwriter from Scotland, whose sound is pure pop. I was excited to see Bow perform as I had heard her new single ’20s’ prior to the gig after it went viral on TikTok. Bow’s fun and youthful energy filled the Arts Club, with the crowd singing along to her TikTok famous single as she danced around the stage. Bow also sang a gorgeous cover of ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ which had the whole crowd belting out their best notes. Bow ended her set with another one of her singles ‘Sweater’ which had the crowd dancing and clapping along. The set made for a feel good performance and she’s definitely worth checking out on social media and I look forward to seeing her blossom in the music industry.
The main act, Tom Walker, then took the stage shortly after. As the band came out and took their places on stage, the excitement coming from the crowd bounced around the venue, people cheering as Tom walked to the front of the stage, guitar around his body. Tom started his set with a song from his 2019 ‘What a Time To Be alive’, album not Giving In’. It’s safe to say the crowd was overcome with excitement, they were belting out the lyrics, dancing with hands up in the air.
Later in the set, Tom played my personal favourite song ‘Just You and I’ and the reaction from the audience was amazing. Couples had their arms around each other, swaying to the love song Tom wrote about his wife-to-be. The whole of the Arts Club audience were singing the lyrics, and the atmosphere was simply beautiful, especially after the difficult past two years everyone has faced. This same loving feeling filled the venue once again towards the end of the set when Tom sung ‘Better Half of Me’. Throughout Tom’s set, he played a couple of unreleased songs which will be a part of his new album coming out later this year. The crowd were loving the new songs, eager to hear more from Tom and his future plans.
After an incredible set, Tom finished with arguably his most famous song ‘Leave a Light On’ and the atmosphere in the Arts Club was simply incredible. Everyone moved closer together, friends and couple had their arms around each other once again as they swayed and belted out the words. Hands holding glasses of beexr were held up high, as Tom sung the powerful lyrics out to the audience. The sound of the whole venue singing the lyrics was a heart-warming moment for everyone, but it was especially evident how much the support of his fans meant to Tom.
Overall, Tom’s performance was amazing, the passion and love for touring is so evident in his music and stage presence and I feel truly privileged to have not only been able to experience the night but to have been given the opportunity to photograph such a successful artist. I look forward to seeing what 2022 brings for Tom Walker.
