Vistas at EBGBS – Wednesday 25th August 2021
Hailing from Edinburgh, Vistas have established themselves as one of the most exciting Indie groups to come onto the scene over the last five years. Their catchy, anthemic songs are hard to ignore and they have continuously gigged across the UK, building a solid and dedicated fan base and now boasting over 30 million combined streams and half a million monthly listeners on Spotify. Vistas have recently embarked on a stripped back, acoustic mini tour across the UK to promote their new album ‘What Were You Hoping To Find?‘ which was released last week.
Arriving at E.B.G.B.S, it was hard not to feel excited, a midweek gig, a balmy summer evening, and the sounds of people chatting and enjoying drinks outside one of the many bars adorning Slater Street. It felt as if no time had passed since I last attended a gig pre Covid, despite it being well over a year. Live music was so missed during the lockdowns and it is a magical feeling to be returning to a music venue, especially when the band is one as energetic and exciting as Vistas.
Supporting Vistas were Warrington band ‘The AV Club‘. The indie four piece made their way to the stage and burst into life with a great set of catchy, sing-a-long tracks which had the audience dancing along. The band sounded tight and looked like they were having a great time on stage, with the occasional joke and banter with the audience permeating the set. Their performance was excellent, with great harmonies and vocals from lead singer Joe Banks. These guys are seriously talented musicians and it was a joy to finally get to watch them live. The AV Club have been going from strength to strength recently and are fast becoming a firm favourite on the Liverpool music scene.
Acoustic sets can often be tough, especially for a band like Vistas who are known for their bright and enthusiastic tracks. However, they did not disappoint. After a short intermission, they entered the stage to cheers from the crowd. Their passion for what they do is clear to see and their dedicated fans present in the audience infected everyone there with their excitement. Launching into some of their most well loved songs such as, ‘Everything Changes in the End‘ and ‘What Were You Hoping To Find‘, they had the whole venue singing and dancing along. Performing such an intimate set meant that the talent of the band really shone through. Their harmonies were perfectly pitched and the catchy guitar and call and response motifs invited you to become part of their performance. Even in the smallest of venues, the band can make you feel as if you are performing with them at a festival.
Ending with one of their most popular tracks ‘Retrospect‘, Vistas had the audience in the palm of their hand. Looking around the room at couples and friends dancing and laughing together, the band truly reveling in the warm response, it was hard not to feel moved. Given the time we have all been forced to spend apart, seeing people come together again to enjoy a gig is a beautiful sight and long may it continue.
